For a long time, Samsung has been the industry's leading display manufacturer. The latest innovation in the brand's product line is the quantum dot OLED panel (QD-OLED for short). Previously, we have seen excessive dot (QD) technology on the company's TV sets, and OLED panels have been the main product of its mobile division for more than ten years. Now, Samsung's goal is to integrate the advantages of the two display technologies into a complete solution.

A new report from the "Korean Herald" stated that Samsung has begun to reduce the production capacity of its liquid crystal display (LCD) plant in South Korea due to the impact of profitability and decline in demand. This adjustment will allocate more resources for QD-OLED panels .

Samsung Display CEO Li Dongxun confirmed that the company will soon launch its first QD-OLED panel, but did not provide any details on when and on which type of device the new technology will debut.

Foreign media pointed out that quantum dot (QD) panels can be regarded as a hybrid product of traditional LCD and OLED panels. It does not use an LED backlight, but a blue LED that can be individually lit, which can convert light into red and green, and consume less power in the process again.

QD-OLED panels use blue OLED pixels and LED quantum dots to achieve higher efficiency and color accuracy. Industry analysts pointed out that Samsung has invested 10 trillion won (US8.3 billion) in QD-OLED production, and the first launch will be the high-end TV product line.
