The term "touch screen" has frequently appeared in many media such as TV, news, magazines, and bookstores. The popular game merchandise and the carrying on mobile phones make it more and more close to our lives. In addition, not limited to consumer goods, automatic ticket vending machines in stations, ATM machines in banks, companies and hospital front desks are also used, making people feel that in every aspect of daily life, the opportunities for contact with touch screens are increasing.
Devices operated by touch are installed on the surface of a flat panel display centered on liquid crystal and used in most cases. The flat panel display industry has formed a market scale of 10 trillion yen, which has become an objective existence affecting the Japanese industry. However, although the number will increase in the future, many people have made low-key predictions about the increase in the amount of money. The main reason is that it has a high loading rate for products such as "TV", which has a high demand, and further The wider application is not yet clear. In addition, the market share of Japanese manufacturers is not high, the scale is shrinking, or the number of companies that have to withdraw is also increasing. Some people think that it cannot be called a sound industry. In view of this, if the touch screen is compared with the LCD flat panel display, its market size is too small, but the future growth is certain, and an annual growth rate of 15 percent is expected. We expect it to grow soundly and continuously and become a new pillar of the electronic device industry.
Although touch screens have received such attention, so far, there have been few publications describing this technology and the industry, and there are increasing calls for books that require basic technical explanations and future development trends. The author was invited by the Industrial Research Council of Co., Ltd. to co-publish a book on flat-panel displays. As there are more opportunities for contact in daily business, this time I also joined the topic on touch screens. However, due to the lack of technical expertise and the knowledge of the information in this book, it is also slightly insufficient.
